This article presents the results of own research in the field of the prevalence of sarcopenia among the elderly undergoing treatment in the therapeutic hospital. In addition, the article highlights the issues of terminology and clinical relevance of this problem. Made problem the need to develop optimal methods for the prevention and treatment of sarcopenia, the feasibility of establishing a stepwise algorithm for the diagnosis of this disease, as well as the relevance of qualification and retraining of personnel working in medical and social sphere, subject to raising awareness on problems of people of older age groups.
