Summary:
The purpose of this study to examine the clinical and pathophysiological correlation of operational stress when performing cholecystectomy. We analyzed the levels of plasma cortisol (integral "stress hormone") in patients who had surgery performed with the use of endotracheal anesthesia and spinal anesthesia, which served as a criterion for assessing the adequacy of anesthesia. Also analyzed the risk of hemodynamic incidents in patients young and old who underwent surgical treatment. Have less pronounced glucocorticoid response in the central blockade implemented with regional (spinal) anesthesia, indicating the possibility of treatment effects of spinal anesthesia as a method of intraoperative pharmacological protection in elderly patients, particularly those with cardiovascular disease.
Keywords surgical stress, old age, cortisol.
