Summary:
Introduction. The syndrome of malnutrition is one of the geriatric problems, and the appetite disoders is one of causes of malnutrition. It is known that polyparmacy in old age is a risk factor for appetite disorders. However, few studies of these processes at the early stages of the gerontological continuum have yet been found at the stage when polypraparmacy on the one hand, and malnutrition on the other hand has not yet formed. This prompted us to undertake a study on the peculiarities of the formation of appetite disorders in the genesis of the gerontological continuum in polypharmacy in early elderly people with a small number of medications taken. The aim of the study is to identify the characteristics of appetite disorders in the genesis of the gerontological continuum in polyharmacy in early elderly people. Material and methods. 214 people aged 60 to 64 years were include in this study, theirs average age was 62.2+1.1 years, there were 110 men and 104 women. All patients were divided into three groups depending on the degree of polypharmacy. The first group of patients (n=50) had no significant somatic pathology, these patients did not take any medications on a regular basis. Patients of the second group (n=92) regularly took from 1 to 4 names of medications for at least three months. The third group consisted of patients who had polypharmacy (n=72). Results. The risk of impaired appetite function in early old age is formed even before the development of polypharmacy when taking even a small amount of drugs. In early elderly people who regularly take from one to four medications, the non-pharmacological risks of appetite disorders exceed the pharmacological ones, unlike people with polypharmacy. Conclusion. The factors which associated with appetite disoders in patient taking 1-4 drugs on a regular basis are partial adentia, subdepression, xerostomia, hypomobility, loss of work activity, while their influence is multifactorial, but most of these factors are manageable.
Keywords old age, polypharmacy, appetite disorders
