According to the WHO, at least 18 million people die from cardiovascular diseases every year, therefore, early diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases is becoming increasingly important. A special role in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular pathology and geriatric syndromes is played by changes in the stiffness-elastic properties of the arterial wall (stiffness index and augmentation index). Early detection and treatment of vascular wall changes not only contribute to improving the health of the nation, but also reduce the economic costs of the state for the treatment of cardiovascular disasters. According to some authors, there is a connection between vascular wall stiffness, augmentation index, arterial hypertension, microcirculation disorders and the development of geriatric syndromes. This is due to the action of complex pathogenetic mechanisms of vascular wall damage against the background of aging, which are poorly understood at the present stage of research, which largely determines their relevance in the search for new methods of diagnosis and treatment of hypertension, especially in older age groups. This article presents the main diagnostic criteria that signal morphofunctional changes in the vascular wall, leading to the development of geriatric syndromes.
