All over the world, there is a tendency to increase the number of people of older age groups who have a number of changes in the cardiovascular system, among them changes in the stiffness and elastic properties of the vascular wal. One of the important roles in the pathogenesis of many diseases of the cardiovascular system is played by an increase in stiffness and a decrease in elasticity of the arterial wall. Arterial stiffness, which is a marker of vascular damage and an independent predictor of cardiovascular diseases, can be used not only as an indicator of vascular aging, but also as an indicator of the development of geriatric syndromes. A literature review was conducted on new methods for diagnosing the interrelationships of changes in the cardiovascular system in arterial hypertension with the functional status of elderly and senile patients. The identified diagnostic methods are easily applicable in clinical practice, inexpensive, and also help in the early diagnosis of sarcopenia. This article describes the main diagnostic criteria that signal morphofunctional changes in the vascular wall, leading to the development of geriatric syndromes.
