The article presents a review of the literature data about the impact of geriatric status and cardiac pathology on the quality of life of the elderly patients. The definition of the concept of quality of life is given; health-related quality of life is characterized. Objective and subjective aspects of quality of life are described. It was analyzed the influence of the elderly age on status and functioning of the cardiovascular system, symptoms, clinical course and treatment of cardiac pathology. It was paid attention to the role of social support in maintaining and improving of the quality of life in elderly cases. It was compared the impact of geriatric syndromes and chronic diseases on the quality of life in elderly. On the basement of the analysis of the literature data, it was concluded that the development of senile asthenia is accompanied by significant limitations of the habitual daily activities. The development of age-related involution significantly reduces the adaptive and compensatory abilities and worsens the clinical course of affiliated cardiac pathology. The impact of some social problems on the health status and quality of life in elderly can be comparable in significance with such well-known risk factors as smoking and obesity. Attention is drawn to the insufficient study of the effects of geriatric syndromes on the quality of life in elderly with cardiovascular diseases; it is made the conclusion that further comprehensive study of these issues is necessary.
