Scientific substantiation of keratoprotection optimization is one of the most important tasks of modern geriatrics. The authors conducted an original study devoted to the scientific justification of measures to increase age-related viability in elderly and senile patients after ultrasound phacoemulsification. The study included 240 people aged 60 to 89 years. All patients included in the study were divided into 2 groups. Patients of the second, main group, in addition to standard therapy, were prescribed a complex of systemic antioxidant agents with prolonged use and non-peptide bioregulators. The clinical effects of complex keratoprotection (standard therapy, systemic antioxidant agents in the form of thioctic acid and non-peptide bioregulators of L-carnitine, alpha-lipoic acid and coenzyme Q10) are associated with an increase in the density of the corneal endothelial monolayer in the elderly by an average of 108 cells/mm2, and in the elderly by 65 cells/mm2 during 1 month of complex keratoprotection. From the medical and social point of view, complex keratoprotection leads to an increase in the rate of postoperative restoration of visual function by 67.9%, a decrease in the degree of dry eyes in 92.2% of people, which can improve the quality of life in the elderly and senile age according to the “Original questionnaire for determining the medical and social effectiveness of keratoprotection».
