The article shows that bedsores do not occur in all bed-bound patients, but are a sign of somatic pathology worsening and are associated with the appearance or progression of general geriatric syndromes, for example, malnutrition syndrome. The article considers the issues of effective prevention of bedsores, which include compliance with the following measures: treatment of somatic pathology, measures for prevention and leveling of geriatric syndromes, identification of bedsores development risk, monitoring the patients’ skin condition, reducing local pressure on tissues, ensuring the patients mobility and intensive skin care. The article also presents the basic principles of bedsores local treatment.
