Summary:
The concept of frailty syndrome was proposed in the early 2000s to characterize the state of depletion of the body's internal reserves and made it possible to predict a high risk of death and other unfavorable outcomes in elderly and senile people [1, 2]. The concept is based on an understanding of the heterogeneity of the population of elderly and senile people and the fact that not only age or the presence of chronic diseases determine the prognosis for the life and health of an elderly patient and the choice of optimal tactics for its management. In surgical patients, frailty syndrome can be a predictor and an independent risk factor for an unfavorable outcome of surgical treatment of patients. Despite this, an algorithm and approaches to the diagnosis of the syndrome of frailty have not yet been developed, the parameters of the functional state that determine the severity of the syndrome of frailty have not been determined.
Keywords frailty, elderly and senile age, surgical patients, laboratory predictors.
