PERSONALIZED APPROACHES TO THE PREVENTION OF ASPIRATION PNEUMONIA IN THE ELDERLY

Summary:
The study showed that the development of aspiration pneumonia in the elderly and senile age involves a complex of combined age-oriented factors that reflect the presence of somatic, neuropsychiatric diseases and pathology of the sensory organs; behavioral characteristics; taking certain medications; the degree of dependence of the patient on outside help. To prevent aspiration pneumonia in the elderly and senile age, it is necessary to implement a set of measures, namely, ensuring timely detection and treatment of pulmonary risk factors for pneumonia; identify the main extrapulmonary risk factors, such as cognitive deficits, including acute, oral pathology, repeated aspiration, neuromuscular pathology (myopathy, sarcopenia), reduced functionality and take measures for their drug correction and rehabilitation; identify behavioral and iatrogenic risk factors, primarily overdose of a number of medications, alcoholism, the presence of an incorrect diet stereotype and provide measures to overcome them.
