The article describes the features of the most common damage to the thoracic aorta – the results of injury.
Most of the victims 70-80% die at the scene after a traffic injury. Clinical signs of aortic injury are non-specific, the diagnosis is usually made on the basis of additional methods of examination of the patient. Treatment is possible either open (thoracotomy) or intravascular. In surgical treatment, the main position is taken by the intravascular (endovascular) method, which in turn is associated with a number of serious limitations (small diameter of vessels, lack of “traditional access”) in elderly patients, which may be accompanied by the development of deceleration syndrome.
