The postoperative cognitive disorder (PCD) and the delirium are frequent and serious complications that often take place among the elderly after being operated. The aim of the research is to study the prevalence of cognitive disorders among the elderly in a postoperative period. We have noticed that one out of six elderly patients from General Surgery, Traumatology and Orthopedics, Urology sufferthepostoperative delirium. Anoperationand anesthesia of the elderly result in sufficient deterioration of cognitive functions. The results of age analysis of a PCD frequency prove that cognitive disorders in a postoperative period are a vital geriatric problem. To solve the problem we have to study the risk factors of PCD among elderly patients and to work out preventive measures for early postoperative cognitive disorders.
Keywords the elderly, postoperative cognitive disorders.
